Poster of the week: Buried
The poster of the week this week is for the new Ryan Reynolds thriller Buried. I've seen three or four different posters for this movie and they're all amazing, but I think this is the best. It can be kinda cheesy when movie producers cover their movies posters in accolades declaring that that film is a must see and one of the best of the year and all that. But this poster puts those praises to amazing use, having them seemingly entrap Ryan in his little box at the bottom corner, creating a much more claustrophobic feel than if the words weren't there. The colours are great too, all black and white except for the word Buried in a bold red. The poster reminds me of some of the old Hitchcock movie posters, especially Vertigo.
Movie posters are no small deal, it could be the difference between someone going to see your movie, or someone else's whose movie has a cooler poster to rope them in with, and this is an effective poster that coveys the tone of the film in an inventive way.
